Dance Palace
Episode 21
Season 1, 1984

This is an unconventional episode where actual kids are on the show competing for a prize. Sadly, contrary to the script, this was the one and only dance contest, and not an annual event. First prize was The Singing Machine. Consolation prize was a radio.

Carla Martin, age 8

“Footloose”

Derek Young, Lloyd Blow (age 9)

“Freakazoid”

Tiffany Brady (age 12), Danielle Sandefur (age 13)

“Maniac”

“Little Wizard” (what did he say his name was?? Chris???)

“There’s No Stopping Us”

Winners: Tiffany Brady, Danielle Sandefur

Um, well, it can have 2 mics. There was some Kids Inc. in it, after all.

I really think that little Carla Martin should have won, and not the two girls who flashed everything, but that's the audience for you. It's funny to see breakdancing and those little kids were actually pretty good.

I can't help but be reminded of Great Pretenders when I watch this now...

Why would you give dancers a Singing Machine?

I wish they'd continued doing this. It was actually a neat idea. However, they made some mistakes. Perhaps the segments were taped out of sequence, because after just the first dancer, Mickey and Gloria are cooing over them and Mickey says, "They're all so good!" Um, all?

- Riley makes a small mistake when he’s announcing the contest
- There is a huge extension added to the stage, with a multicolored light box, that you never see again.
- I know that there's a rumor that Devyn was supposed to be on this episode...but I cannot find any real evidence of this.
