She's so Shy
Episode 18
Season 1, 1984

Introducing: --

For the first (and sadly, last) time, Kids Incorporated decides to acknowledge their band and dancers after a great number. Everyone shows off and bows. When they get to Wendy, however, she shrinks away. The kids don’t see what the problem is and tell her to grin and bear it. Then everyone conveniently leaves.

While The P*lace is dark, Wendy returns to the stage. She begins to sing her heart out as if she’s done it all her life. Mickey returns and catches her in the act. He quickly runs and gets the others, who are pleasantly surprised. But when the song is over and they applaud wildly, Wendy runs away.

They chase after her and tell her how great she is, but she’s way too shy to perform in front of an audience. Despite their encouragement and a number, she’s still bashful. Hmm, this calls for a comical thought process.

Finally, Mickey has an idea…

Kids Inc. is just hanging out by the stage door when Wendy arrives for the performance. They stop her and give her a bunch of “electrical talk” – everything is dead in The P*lace except for one solitary light. Ooh, convenient, huh? Yes, she falls for it.

So Wendy goes out on stage and begins singing. Suddenly, Kids Inc. joins her and the entire P*lace comes to life. They all do the number, and the audience loves it.

Wendy is a great singer! That's why I gave this episode 4 mics. It did have its dumb moments, though:

Who did she think it was watching her and applauding? Sure, it was dark, but the band that you dance for would have been my first guess. The kids are awfully shocked that a dancer can sing, too.

How did they manage to keep the whole audience quiet all that time in the dark?

Also, you’d think after all that trouble, Wendy would have gotten to sing again or something. She just goes back to dancing as if nothing ever happened.
