No Jockos
Episode 16
Season 1, 1984

Introducing: --

We join Kids Inc. busily preparing for the town’s annual street carnival. This year, the proceeds go to finding homes for stray animals. Kid proudly displays the cakes he’s made (?), while Stacy is busy stuffing piñatas – with taffy, as Riley unfortunately finds out. Gloria and Renee proudly announce that they’ve sold a massive amount of tickets due to their headliner, a clown named Jocko. Apparently, he’s really good.

As the kids are rehearsing a number, Riley reappears with some bad news. Jocko has broken his leg, and he can’t make it. The kids don’t know what to do since everyone is eagerly buying tickets to see Jocko. It looks like the whole carnival is canceled. Renee comes in with a dog (I swear I thought it was stuffed until it moved its head), and everyone is depressed at the thought of it living on the street.

Riley makes some calls while Kids Inc. sings, but he can’t find a single clown available. Suddenly, everyone gets hit with an idea

…except Stacy.

They give lame excuses and take off. Stacy finally replaces her dead bulb and she has an idea, too. Riley is left alone…until he has an idea.
Are you thinking what I’m thinking the kids are thinking?

Now we finally get to see the inside of the Magic Shoppe as each kid sneaks in and purchases something – shoes, wigs, horns. Gloria affirms what we all figured out earlier – the kids are going to be the clowns. Unfortunately, no one bothered to check with anyone else.

The day of the carnival arrives, and the main event is…5 clowns! Wait – make that six clowns, as Riley arrives on stilts.

After realizing their mistakes and the fact that the audience thinks it’s hilarious, Clowns Inc. throws a fantastic street carnival and everyone is happy…except for maybe Jocko, who is now out of a job.

I didn't like this episode very much - it just seemed short and not really involved. Oh, clowns are cute and all, but so many people are terrified of them that a screenful of clowns might have sent them running for the hills. It might have been my first 1 microphone, except the songs are good.

Continuity, gags and themes:
- Did Kid just decorate those cakes, or did he actually make them? Later, in Basketball Blues, the idea of boys baking cakes is seen by both genders as ludicrous.
- There are no animals allowed in The P*lace - says Riley - although later there will be a rabbit and another dog. Perhaps Flip changes this rule later, but it's still broken at least once.
- The kids have no problem dressing up as clowns and performing.
