School's For Fools
Episode 14
Season 1, 1984

Introducing:--

There’s a star in our midst. No, not David Hasselhoff – The Kid! He’s enjoying the limelight so much that he complains when the others shut it off. They’re cramming for finals and are attempting to get Kid to come with them because he’s been flunking out. He’s in danger of being held back. But Kid doesn’t care. He’s planning on going to The Hoff’s concert at the Coco Club instead of studying and nothing they say can convince him that school is more important.

That afternoon, Kids Inc. attempts to help Kid get something, anything right, but music is the only thing he can think about. He snuck a magazine into study hall and has spent the whole time fantasizing about being a star.

The others threaten to drop him from the band, but he refuses to listen. He storms off angrily. Everyone's frustrated and out of answers until Stacy unwittingly gives Gloria an idea – and she rushes off.

The evening of the concert arrives, and Kid is still set on going. Riley tries to stall him, but it’s no use, he won’t listen to anyone.

Not even David Hasselhoff himself can get him to-WELL, HEY! IT’S DAVID HASSELHOFF! Apparently, Gloria went and told him all about The Kid refusing to study. He graciously drops off the moral and tells Kid that if he promises to go study, he’ll do a song with the band.

No one could be happier about this than Renee, who apparently has a huge crush on him and doesn’t mind showing it in an ear-piercing way…

I guess the overall episode was a good idea. I had no idea kids thought about quitting school at such a young age; I still sort of liked it then.

Would a kid The Kid's age be able to get into a concert like that, anyway? I would have assumed it would have been on a weekend because even adults would have to go to work the next day.

Performance outfits:

- The school has finals for kids no matter what grade you’re in.
- Kid's mom has been on him about his grades since The Angels.
- There's a jacket hanging on a fencepost in the basketball court. Whose is it?? It's awfully high. This isn’t even the same jacket from Seasons 4 and 5.
- Kid is wearing Prince's outfit from the "When Doves Cry" video.
- There’s a poster in the study hall that says “Garth Walker: Class President”.
- There’s a sock hop poster, too! It says “Sock Hop 8 o’clock, Special Guest, Kids Inc.” Odd, considering that wasn’t even an idea until Season 2.
- The last poster says “Sign up for French Club Field Trip next week”.
- Hasselhoff used to have video on his website that included the bloopers from his scene. It was actually featured on TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes. Unfortunately, it’s not there anymore, I checked.
